The Red Bull rumor merry-go-round

...A truley wonderful thing it is.

In these past weeks of no new news for the Red Bulls, as well as a North Jersey debacle on the part of all of my favorite teams...it is time for me to seperate the truth from the rumors...or at least make an idiot of myself trying to.

So let us go down the list of all that have been rumored to wear the most storied shirt in MLS history (joke).

Let's start lower on the blockbuster scale...

Danilo DaSilva - This is the rumor that is most likely of happenning at this point...all I can say is that it would be a good solid addition to squad depth. This rumor is likely because the club has repeated that they will look into bringing him back, as well as they had talks with DaSilva on the last scouting trip in South America.

Miloy - There is really no solid eveidence of interest yet except from this article from a site I have never seen before in my life. That being said this is one of the rumor's I would really like to see become a reality. A young guy who is good enough to play in the World Cup is good enough for the Red Bulls.

The fact that (if this report is true) the article says there has been contact, and that the "New York Club" has watched him, could make this a rumor to keep an eye on. I personally think that he is deffinatley on bruce's list.

Ronald Wattereus - Don't hold your breath...this one is looking very unlikely to happen...plus it would flat out be a bad signing for the club. A real waste of money.

Alecko Eskandarian - We have all seen the "throw away" line in the MLS e-mail... This is really nothing to get excited about...nor discount at this point. This is just signs of possible trade talks in the past or the present that have arisen with Esky's name in them. If MLS fans knew of all of the trade talk thrown around between clubs there head would explode.

Paulo Wanchope - Deffinatley the hottest name at the moment...with lot's of evidence towards a possible signing... both clubs have admitted talks. There is no doubt in my mind that Red Bull wants this man on the squad for next year, but the fact that they do not feel he is "DP" material makes things very confusing due to the very confusing and screwed up allocation system the MLS has in place.

Ivan De La Pena - This one came out of nowhere and died about a week later. All I have to say is the only way this is happenning is if Ronaldo is on the squad. Even then it may not happen. You have to understand that De La Pena is playing very high quality football at Espanol right now...maybe the best he has ever played some are even saying. Why would he want to throw that away?

Claudio Reyna - I know, I know...he said he was not going to leave Man City in January blah blah blah...what do you expect him to say? Reyna is not some dick face who is going to blab to the media that he is leaving...he is a classy guy. Don't look for it to happen in Jan...but Reyna will be on the Red Bulls.

Jon O'brien - He was rumored to be in the Guevara trade...didn't happen. Bruce will probably give him another look...but it won't happen.

David Beckham - I think we discount the possibility of Becks becoming a Red Bull too much. Look, he has always said either LA or NY...I think we came up with this fake statement saying he is deffinatley going to LA. He loves NY and I personally think RBNY can put together a better offer than the Gals if it is about the money. I am not saying he will be a Red Bull, but it is more possible than people think.

Luis Figo - I think this one is somewhere in between where this rumor as at a month ago (good chance) and where it is today (impossible). We know Bruce has said things along the lines of it won't happen but Bruce is not one to reveal all of his cards...just remember that. That being said...Figo is playing some damn good ball at Inter and may not be ready to leave that gig so soon.

Ronaldo - Ahh yes, the crown jewel, the prize possesion, the apple of every Red Bull fan's eye. This is all dependant on when he wants to come to the states. It is simply a matter of time. Unless he decides to ditch the MLS idea...look for him to be a Red Bull next year, or if we get unlucky the year after.
